Thank you so much for the information I have received this morning about COVID VIRUS 19.
My name is Joanna Kim-Selby, Volunteer Executive Director, East Bay Korean-American Senior Services Center
located at 1723 Telegraph Ave. Oakland, CA 94612
I have been working at home RE COVID VIRUS 19.
I have been distributing masks and gloves to our senior members of our Center via the Post Office. It is an enormous and time consuming but at least we are reaching our members and non-members.
We need some funding to do the work.
Do you have any form for me to fill out so that I can get some funding to do this work. This is one person-operation but I am reaching to the Korean
people who do not have E-mail addresses. It is slow but I am reaching to these people.
I have sent requests to the Supervisors Office to find out where I can reach our members to get COVID VIRUS 19 tests whether he/she is positive or negative. Without these test results, we are working blindly.
This must come out in the news media.
I have distributed one big box of masks to St. Andrew Korean Catholic Church located at Camden St, in Oakland, CA
2) I have been working on Census 2020 fill out. This is also I would like to use samples in Korean to the Korean News media so that we can count
all Koreans at least in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
3) I have been doing social services at home for our Korean seniors. We are working to distribute a bag of rice 15 lbs to our seniors who we could not provide meals so I have distributed 22 bags on 4/16/2020 but still a long way to go so we are working withthe Korean American Community Foundation to get some volunteers to deliver these rice bags.
My Home phone number is 510-235-6179 which was released to all our members through news media Korean Daily, the Korea Times , Hyundae News. Therefore I received questions from members and non-members of the Korean Senior Services Center.via phone.
If any one would like to contact us, then write questions and put in the Korean Senior Center's mail box. We will pick up and answer the questions.
Thank you for your Grant Information.

4/29/2020 - Zoom meeting. The next Zoom meeting is 5/5/2020. Joanna Selby is working with city hall and the various donors to have meals, and rice distributed. Notably the KACF of San Francisco (special note of thanks to Lina Park and Sophia Oh) is delivering 45 meals directly to seniors. Flexible arrangements have been made with the donors, accounting is being coordinating, so that no individual can run off with the records in his own private computer. During the July meeting, new officers for the management of the center and the board of the directors will be approved by the membership, along with approval of the bylaws. Steps are being taken to merge the Senior Center with a larger nonprofit with more resources, as this will give the Senior Center great autonomy and protection from predators.
5/3/2020
SBA - EIDL loan application filed. 45 seniors meals delivered, including goodies bags. Alameda County extending partnership, including testing for COVID-19.
Archstone Foundation.and the Foundation Granted $2,000 for the non-profit use.

News Release by East Bay Korean American Senior Services Center. We are sheltering in place due to COVID 19 and many of our seniors feel cooped up feelings in a small room but our lunch delivery with homegrown fresh cut lettuce were welcome additions to the lunch box made their spirits rise. Many seniors enjoyed the Korean food and get a break from their monotonous daily life. The Lunch Program is three times a week Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Started small 50 seniors for the East Bay Korean American Senior Services Center members and sponsored by Korean American Community Foundation (KACF-SF) on May 2, 2020. But now the recipients of the lunch have been expanded to 246 seniors as of 05/13/2020. Day goes by the number has been Increasing so we have no idea how many seniors will receive the lunches at the end of June 30, 2020 when the program ends. The Sponsor is the Korean philanthropist Mr. Jong- Moon Lee donated to KACF-SF. The KACF-SF, EBKASSC, and KCCEB are coordinating
this Project. East Bay Korean American Senior Services Center is the Distribution Center for the Lunch Program.
Korean American Community Foundation – S F Grace Lee who is young energetic staff is overall organizing, coordinating, and distributing for this Project under Executive Director
Lina Park’s direction.
Volunteer Executive Director Joanna Kim-Selby (Ok-yon Kim) closer to 90 years old directs the
Program including the mail out of masks and gloves. The requests come from many Koreans via email or letters far away from Alaska, Sacramento, Lakeview Terrace, Rancho Cucamonga, Santa Clara, Rohnert Park, San Jose, Palo Alto, etc. Secretary Myong Kwang Sik and
Volunteer Executive Director Joanna Kim-Selby are mailing out all Masks and Glove Program. Vice President Hyun-Jong Yoo and Chef Sung Kil Hong are planting lettuce and harvest for distribution. Also, they deliver meals and bags of rice (members only) and non-members.
We are now reaching out to the Korean Church Groups: Masks and Gloves Program:
St. Andrew Korean Catholic Church
Richmond Baptist Church
Korean Community Christian Church
The East Bay Korean American Senior Services Center provides volunteers to deliver their own members and non-members with lunch boxes, fresh cut lettuce, a bag of rice once a month (members only), masks and gloves to not only in the Oakland area but also Richmond, El Cerrito, San Pablo, El Sobrante areas
KCCEB provides volunteers to deliver the lunches farther away areas from the Korean Senior Center, such as San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley and Union City. Vice President Kum Ye Chun of EBKASSC is involved in distribution.
This Program is private program sponsored by many Foundations.
Masks and Gloves Program by Jin Duck and Kyong Sik Kim Foundation run by Jonathan H. I. Kim, DDS and Soon Ran Kim, Chair of the Board for their Parents Foundation
Lunch Program by Korean Philanthropist Jong- Moon Lee administered by Korean American Community Foundation-S F .staff is organizing, coordinating and distributing with EBKASSC and KCCEB.
East Bay Community Foundation on Aging sponsored Mailing cost and envelopes, copy paper, printing inks many others
Koreana Plaza donated KN95 masks to the Korean Senior Center
City of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf donated bags of Ginger Tea to Korean Senior Center
Archstone Foundation sponsored: Caregiver non-covered items such as pick up medicine, take to doctor’s appointment. Pick up bags of food items from the Center.
Last but not least, we thank those volunteers who provide service to their seniors. Without their dedicated volunteerism, this program will not be accomplished. Thanks again.
5/31/2020
It is good news for the seniors. Surprised the Governor, who did not use his AAA system instead of using private organization .
We contracted with you under the sponsorship of Mr Chong-Moon Lee up to 6/30/2020.
Myung and I both understood that this program will end on 6/30/2020.
We are not so eager to extend the 7/15/2020 meals program. Our seniors rather have a bag of rice so they can cook the way
they like staying home. It is an enormous program to get many volunteers to deliver so many different addresses.
Food quality is not really good like in the past. Of course, I understand it is an emergency so everything is not like in the past.
The Friday meal for me was lots of bean sprouts in the bottom of the container and uguji on top and the whole thing was out of freezer. I got sick from the food. But I am not saying loudly to keep our seniors quiet.
Then another thing is lots of plastic containers are used and where all those containers are going to go. Those used plastic containers are not
recyclable as Alameda County has an order so will end up in the dumps.
So we would end the meals program at the end of 6/30/2020. as we negotiated. with you when this program started. We thank you to you both and Mr. Chong-Moon Lee's great warm heart for the Koreans
I asked around our seniors and they were all concerned about their names, addresses, phone numbers are out, so all those delivery people have the list. Some were quite concerned.about the privacy issue. I had heated arguments with some seniors. Our seniors are many different levels so some are quite upset when there is no privacy issues phrase was not even mentioned and I so freely given out the individuals privacy. When I was confronted, I really did not have answers. When we discussed this meals program, it was a great program but I was containing my members only but it expanded such humongus numbers over 300 people.
Yes, data wise great successful program it has become.
Then KCCEB brought the funds from Gov.'s program and also fundraising through the internet. I am looking 2 years or 3 years ahead that time KCCEB will claim that they sponsored the meals program. I very much hesitated at our meeting because once KCCEB is involved it always veered off to somewhere else. who knows where?
You Granted meals program so bag of rice and some trimmings we can supply to our seniors.
so we would like to stick with that. Since we cannot cook in our kitchen and get the seniors come to the Center like in the past so can we negotiate with you that supply the bag of rice and Kimchee. Even we are not cooking but our utility costs are billed perhaps a little less than in the past still basic amount is billed.
Now inflation hits a bag of rise is gone up to @17.99 from $12.99 and the store does not give more than 50 bags at once.
@17.99 x 100 bags (June and July ) = $1,799.00
@12.00 x 50 bottles = $600
A total of $2.399 a total of your exciting Grant money for the July Meals for our seniors. I hope you approve of this proposal. Thank you in advance.
This we need volunteers once a month to deliver the rice we can stay at home obey the Alameda County Administrative Order. . Not 3 times a week come out to do the delivery work. My volunteers are over 75 + so I am very much concerned about their well-being especially this virus has no visible appearance. In fact, one of my colleague of CSL wrote to Yeri Shon of KCCEB of my not "Stay in Home" Yes, distribution of the meals where I am an essential volunteer as Myoung Kwang Sik cannot make decisions on the Meals Program I am the one but I include him to continuity of the Program.
Now KCCEB when we the Koreans Needs Assessment time where were they? Come up with only 4 Korean seniors to AAA of Alameda County I came up with 87 so a total of 91 Korean seniors listed. Now when AAA of Alameda County is asking me where all these 300 + Korean seniors come from when AAA asked to survey we had only 91. How can I explain to AAA Alameda County? That 's why I am really hesitate to do business with KCCEB.
Had the AAA of Alameda County let me do the job, the County would get much better results. But now things are cooked for the Korean community as 91seniors in Alameda County when we produce meals progrm 300+ is available. In fact, KCCEB damaged the Korean community enormous amount of damage. It is too late to do the damage control. Finally, thee AAA of Alameda County came to me to do the survey. I attach for your file (pictures of 9/24/2019) .
Mailing Masks and Gloves Program has become such success for the Korean community in the California. The free masks and gloves Program spread like a
wild fire so I get requests from all over the California and other states such as Alaska, Louisiana, Hawaii, so our name is out there. Still keeps on coming the requests I am the only one doing this Program although many so called Korean organizations received from Jonathan H.I DDS but we are the only one mail out to individuals at free of charge. But i will do mail out as long as the supply last and postage last for the sake of the Korean community and help out the public health Dept.
I have written a long E-mail and because I have been wronged by so many people. In fact, I am reading Yeri Shon's E-mail to me, Lee Woong Song's and Dae Yeon Choi's claiming that I used two different kinds of By-Laws used 7/27/2019 and 6/28/2018 when I applied for the Grant to KACF-SF, then to Consulate General of Republic of Korea, EBCF-on Aging, Supervisor Keith Carson wherever i took Lee Woong Song to train for the job but in the end he gather up his gang and tried to grab $20,250.21 for the Korean Cultural Center and wrote Attorney Genera of CA, Secretary of State, even wrote non-Profit Compliance Office in Sacramento, of latest one is to tinker our address to EDD office so our Office address is P.O. Box 11242, Oakland, CA 94611. I am trying to correct our office address by our temporary accountant Josie Sohn found out our address had changed and I will eventually write to the EDD office as soon as I can find some time.
These guys scuttled the Korean Senior Center Board and Dae Yeon Choi was Secretary and Board Chair is Kyong Tae Cho who fired me as CEO of Cultural Center and the Senior Center by Lee Woong Song's touting them. They are his lackies and poppet, to conspire to grab $20,250.21 from the Senior Center and they called me a thief to take their money. I did not take their money in fact, they are really thieves together with Keun Bae Yoo former SF Korean Association Chair I have no idea Jeseph Jung's role here but the mainstream considers him a cooperator. The Bank of Hope Sent the Cashier's Check to me as the original depositor of the funds. Grab the Korean Senior Cente building (mortgage free) to their use and also meager operation money I kept for the Center.
After all these character assassinations of me I am very careful to do anything. I am not bragging but in the Korean community so called leaders I am the cleanest person as far as operating the Korean Senior Center. In fact, Lee Woong Song wanted to exhaust our Money Market so I need that as a collateral in case we need a Line of Credit to run the Center so I loaned $5,000 to the Center and Lee Woong Song and Dea yeon Choi together I did illegal thing and charged me. Endless charges charges But one of These days I will make Lee Woong Song and his gang to pay the price.
His Legal Document Assistant permit ?
I have never rebutted to his claims on the newspapers and spread rumors, etc. but will see. Just because old woman so they can kick me around a few times then Joanna will be dead or get stroke or heart attack like my former VP Joon Seop Lee who eventually died.
So,Sorry I am not doing business with KCCEB and KCCEB sent Yeri Shon for the photo opportunity.
Please consider my proposal of giving a bag of rice for June and July instead of labor intensive volunteering to distribute a total of 6 times volunteering from my side of the seniors. We can provide fresh cut lettuce for June and July out of my yard. which was planted and harvested by seniors.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to write my pent up feelings of last 9 months. I hired a wrong guy Lee Woong Song according to his former Board of Chair Korean American Credit Union which was bankrupted. I should have listen to more wise people.
P.S - During the Lunar New Year, each member family will receive 15 pounds of rice.

East Bay Korean-American Senior Services Center

Oakland, CA 94612

The Senior Center is closed until around March 2021 due to the pandemic. In the interim, meals will be delivered and other services will be provided as appropriate. The executive director is being added as a point of contact along with the current webmaster. Bluehost.com and VolunteerMatch.com have been notified.
2/7/2021
East Bay Korean American Senior Services Center received updated OCC Number 4009 Active Charitable Corp 1099339 FY 21-22 today so Joanna Kim-Selby will hand carry to the Assessor Phong La Exemption Section
on Monday so we will not be taxed $2,797.12 for the Second Installment.
We must receive a refund as the Building Parcel Number 8-641-3 was assessed a non-charitable organization due to the old Permit Date
of 12/11/2003 that was not recognized by the Alameda County Tax Office.
10/10/2021
The Senior Center will mostly be closed until the end of the pandemic, but the seniors will be receiving meals and some other services in the interim. Meanwhile, the building will most likely be used for vaccinations per discussions involving Supervisor Carson's staff and the Alameda County Health Authorities.
The Center received OCC letter dated 01/29/2021 as
BOE No. 4009 Status: Active Purpose: Charitable
Entity ID: 1099339 FY: 21-22
Thank you I am really relieved of the worry. The New Permit will last for quite a while,
The Senior Center reopened on 4/22/2022 on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. This will continue during May and we hope to provide lunches at the Senior Center from Monday through Friday starting in June.
Meanwhile, the Senior Center has started Bing with a singing program on Friday.
8/21/2022 - Danielle Poma will have her program listed on website. "Fall Prevention Program. "
Danielle Poma, MedicalAlert.org
We opened the Center Thursday, April 21.2022. We open 3 days a week:
Tuesdays,Thursdays, and Saturdays. Our members were sick of delivering
the restaurant meals. Because they lived alone and ate meals alone,
they got indigestion and depression. So COVID was slow so we opened as
some other country opened their senior centers.
We cook on site with our meager money and supplement with Alameda
County Food Bank items and we asked the members to chip in $2 donation
which they did/do because our Center meals are much better quality and
delicious. They no longer wait for 2 hours to be delivered by
restaurant meals by volunteers. We have about 25 people x 3 days = 75
duplicated people. 75 x 4 weeks = 300 300 x 12 months =3,600 people.
We can expand the attendance but we do not have transportation to pick
up the people who live in the far away areas. We have 2 on the
waiting lists due to transportation and we observe 6 feet social
distance. Seven members left for Korea for good. Joel, you should be
proud of your making a website for the Center. Because we have
Website Korean adult children searched our website and brought their
parents to our Center. Congratulations Joel.!!!
The most important thing is socialization among members in the Korean
language and meeting friends in the Center. So their indigestion and
depression were gradually alleviated so they have Bingo, Sit down Tai
Chi by Bishop Scott (retired college psychology professor ), singing,
play chess, cards, Korean chess (Jangi). Best of all is that Cente
picks them up from their homes and returns them to their home. We take
members to Doctors or Dentist offices for their treatment or test. We
also take them to pharmacies. Executive Director does SSA/SSI and
Medicare/MediCal, Senior Apts. contacts for the seniors who are
looking for senior apts.
We also work with Legal Assistant for Seniors. As there are MediCal
Assets Expansion is effective July 1, 2022. Single $130, 000; couple
$195,000; 2 houses, & cars allowed. But catch is the monthly income; if
more than allowed monthly income, then share of cost involves. It is
always some kind of monkey ranch.
I gave you more than enough info Re: the Center.
We are very lucky to receive Alameda County Food Bank items so our
members supplement their meals with food items and one way to battle
the inflation.
By the way, did I mention that we received Grant from Alameda County
Supervisor Keith Carson. $50,000 for the Center.
3/10/2024 - Two new volunteers on Saturday - Hyobin & Cheri-Ann
On June 8, 2024 The Senior Center will recognize 13 KAYLP students to be recognized for their volunteerism and 3 students will receive $500 scholarships.
In addition to Stefan Guardine, Ambassador of UpTown and DownTown and for a long time TaiChi Teacher Bishop SCott ( ret ) Psychology Professor of Alameda College. Joanna will donate three Korean War Memorial Coins ( Battle of Incheon , Gen.Douglas McArthur, and 38th Parallel) to San Francisco and Bay Area Korean Community Center President Jonathan H. Kim . I understand the Consulate General of The Republic Korea Consul will attend the ceremony.
Thanks.

@17.99 x 100 bags (June and July ) = $1,799.00
@12.00 x 50 bottles = $600

8/21/2022 - Danielle Poma will have her program listed on website. "Fall Prevention Program. "
Danielle Poma, MedicalAlert.org
- Living alone into old age can put seniors at risk of injuries or other emergencies. 25% of adults fall each year, and 1 out of 5 of those falls cause serious injuries like a broken bone or head trauma, according to the CDC. There are things you can do to make sure that your loved ones will get the help that they need when an emergency does occur. Medical alert systems can be an invaluable resource in this regard.
Medical alert systems are great for those who want the security of around-the-clock emergency assistance for themselves or a loved one who has chosen to live independently and/or age in place. The devices allow seniors to retain their independence and live in their preferred environment without the major risk of them being without help if and when they need it.

Thanks.
July 4th we open as they have no place to go..
Aug 15, We open the Center and celebrate Liberty Day from the Japanese Occupation.
